Lost & Found

Coronavirus update banner

We try our very best to reunite every lost pet with their owner. Since our lobby is currently closed to the public due to COVID restrictions, if you’ve found a lost pet, please call our Customer Care team at 720.523.7387 to determine the best time to bring them to the shelter. When the pet arrives, we check for a microchip that may be implanted on the pet with the owner’s contact information. If one exists, we’ll attempt to call the person identified, so hopefully the microchip information is up to date.

If the lost pet’s microchip information is not current, and we’re not able to contact the their owner, we hold them for five business days to give the owner an opportunity to search for them. We put every lost pet’s photo on our Lost & Found page and on Petharbor.com. On the seventh day, if the pet has not yet been reclaimed, and is not in need of medical care, they will become available for adoption.

What happens when someone brings us a lost pet

Upon arriving at our shelter, we try our very best to reunite every lost pet with their owner. First, we check for a microchip that may be implanted on the pet with its owner’s contact information. If one exists, we’ll call the person identified, so be sure your contact information is up to date on the microchip.

If the lost pet doesn’t have a microchip, we hold them for five business days to give owners enough time to search for their pet.  We also put every lost pet that comes into our shelter onto petharbor.com, so be sure to check there, too.

On the seventh day, if the pet has not yet been claimed, and is healthy, they will become available for adoption.
